Housing Options Programs The Housing Options Programs (HOP) assist families or individuals at risk of becoming homeless or experiencing homelessness to receive:
- Intense Case Management Services
- Temporary Rental subsidies
- Placement & referral services
Programs Offered:
- Housing First – Provides intensive case management, re-housing and temporary rental subsidy
Housing First
Intensive case management is provided for persons experiencing homelessness that are in need of temporary subsidized rental assistance, while promoting a savings plan and asset building option to help ensure self-sufficiency at the conclusion of the program. Each participant receives assistance in developing skills including:
- Budgeting
- Life management skills
Duration of Services:
The duration of services range from three months to 12 months, determination made on case by case basis. Referrals are required to be received through Broward County’s Coordinated Assessment process that can be accessed by calling 954-563-4357 (HELP).
Eligibility Requirements:
- Meet HUD’s definition of homeless
- Reside in Broward County
- Demonstrate the ability to attain self-sufficiency through documentation of the ability to pay rent and living expenses when rental subsidy ends
- HART – Provides supportive permanent housing for individuals experiencing chronic homelessness with substance use disorders
NewHart and Hart & Home are HUD funded Supportive Housing Programs designed to encourage persons experiencing chronic homelessness that have substance use or co-occurring disabilities to actively engage in the transition from homelessness.
Participants share an apartment with another program participant, each paying 30 percent of their income toward their half of the rent, with subsidy from the HUD grant if necessary. Participants are supported through case management to identify personal goals with the ultimate objective of independent housing and self-sufficiency. Each participant receives intensive case management and assistance in developing skills including:
- Budgeting
- Household management
- Job attainment and maintenance
- Substance use recovery management
- Mental health preservation
Eligibility requirements:
- Experiencing chronic homelessness in Broward County
- Have a substance use disability or co-occurring disabilities
- All referrals must be received through Broward County’s Coordinated Assessment that can be accessed through Homeless Outreach Teams or by calling 954-563-4357
- Family Reunification – Provides homeless residents with a one-way bus ticket to a family member outside of Broward County.
Provides homeless residents a one-way ticket anywhere Greyhound Lines travels to reunify customers with their family or supportive friend. Services can only be utilized once in a life time. The program does not import or bring people to Broward County. Additional program information include:
- Service is rendered every Tuesday
- Intake and referral are accepted via phone, fax or email
- Qualified customers must be prepared to leave at the appointed time
- No food or cash will be provided for travel
Eligibility Requirements:
- Must meet HUD definition of homeless or flee domestic violence
- Residence in Broward County for a minimum of six months
- Adult 18 and older must present a government issued identification
- Minors must be accompanied by an adult and present a birth certificate
- Relative or other support network must reside at the intended destination and be willing to accept the traveler
Housing Options Programs provide intensive case management and financial rental assistance to qualified customers that are experiencing homelessness through rapid re-housing and supportive housing programs. Housing Options Programs are accessed through the Homeless Helpline (954) 563-4357.
